In his pre-match press conference, Pierre Sage was quizzed by the media about his future in charge of Lyon at the Groupama Stadium.
Appointed as interim head coach following Fabio Grosso’s dismissal, Pierre Sage has masterminded a dramatic comeback in charge of Lyon during the second half of the season. When the former Red Star coach took charge of OL, they were languishing in the relegation zone. With one match left of the Ligue 1 season, their destiny is in their own hands with opportunities to qualify for European football both through the league and by winning the Coupe de France.
Such a turnaround in fortunes at Les Gones has seen increasing support for Sage’s time at the helm to be extended. However, his latest comments about his future seem to indicate that nothing is yet agreed regarding a contract extension or his potential departure.
Commenting on his future ahead of Lyon’s final match in Ligue 1 against Strasbourg, Sage said, “John Textor and I talk every day, we talk about everyday life, so we talk about Strasbourg. Next week, if he’s here, we’ll talk about the final. And the following week, if he’s still there, maybe we’ll talk about my future.”
