Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall,” which won the Oscar for best original screenplay on Sunday night, will become available to stream on Hulu starting March 22. Until then, you can rent or buy the film on Prime Video or Apple TV+.
A courtroom drama exploring the collapse of a marriage, the film stars Sandra Huller (“The Zone of Interest”) as a novelist who is put on trial following the mysterious death of her husband, and sees her son being called to the witness stand. It missed out on being chosen as France’s Oscar entry, but the movie has been a critical and commercial hit — including in the U.S., where it’s become the highest-grossing specialized foreign-language release post-pandemic. At the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night, it took home the prizes for best non-English film and best screenplay.
Triet, who previously worked with Huller on 2019’s “Sibyl,” told Variety that she was ready to take a different direction with “Anatomy of a Fall.” ” I quickly decided that I wanted to make courtroom drama that wouldn’t be a comedy,” she told Variety after its world premiere.” I had the idea of focusing on a couple through the prism of a trial. I also realized that I had filmed many children without ever giving them a proper role. In ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ I wanted to capture an important moment in the life of a child at an age where he becomes more autonomous, and see the absolute trust he has in his mother transform slowly into a state of doubt.”
